Say "NO" to the plateau.
So I was listening to Natalie Walker and started to unwrap her song "Waking Dream." It got me thinking of that safe complacent feeling we get that soon brings us into plateaus.
Complacency + Ignorance = Plateau
I came up with this equation as to how I get into my own plateaus. I become complacent with how I'm going through life. After this I become ignorant of the lack of drive I show. This turns into a plateau.
There are a few areas you can hit a plateau in.
1. Relationships: You aren't putting out effort, time, and/or emotion towards family, friends and partners... and you are ok with that. You keep doing the same things over and over again. Everything starts to feel the same and this isn't a great feeling. Relationships require work and it will always be like that. If you can't accept that then you will end up in a plateau or just really lonely.
2. Health/ fitness: Your "routine" isn't keeping you where you want to be at but you are too comfortable with it to change it. You are used to doing 55 or 65# thrusters or overhead squats so doing anything more than that is not appealing at the moment. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Change is good and necessary. I can't JUST do Crossfit. I have to run, paddle board, play soccer, bike, hike(on occasion) or I would be in the biggest plateau. Just like your relationships, it takes work to keep things interesting and new.
3. Personal goals/ambitions: Now that you have the degree you needed and the job you wanted, you are good to go. Well what's next? Unless you keep setting goals, nothing will ever continue to change and get better. You can always be better. You can always grow spiritually and do more for others, not just yourself.

It's time to stop being complacent and start living, not because it's a new year, but because it's a new day of life. Take advantage of each new day you are given and make changes.
Always move forward,
and don't get stuck on a flat plain of nothing.
