I've been eating clean consistently for over 7 months now. It has been a challenging and rewarding experience. My body and mind have both completely changed for the better. Not only has eating clean saved my health, but my money as well (they go hand in hand though). So, what does eating cheap look like? Eating cheap means eating fast food because the burger or nuggets only cost a couple of bucks, frozen pizza, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, and basically anything that doesn't spoil. The number one excuse for eating these horribly processed foods is because it's "cheaper" and it tastes better than a salad. I'm not here to bash people that eat fast food or make anyone feel bad about themselves. I just want to shed some light on the truth in all of this.
Since I started eating clean, I've spent less money on food than ever before. I don't stop at Wawa and get footlong subs, breakfast from Hardees, or muffins from Starbucks. The reason why people think they save money from eating cheap fast food is because they spend small amounts of money, but many times. It all adds up, and it's more money than you would spend purchasing fresh and healthy food from the grocery store each week.
Here are some rather glaring facts:
Here are some rather glaring facts:
1. 20 percent of all American meals are eaten in the car.
2. At least 1 in 4 people eat some type of fast food every day.
3. Americans spend 10 percent of their disposable income on fast food every year.

Above is a picture I took earlier this week when I was grocery shopping. This was a light shopping trip because I still had some veggies at home along with sweet potatoes. Ever since I started eating clean, It takes less food to make me full. All of my fresh produce gets me way further throughout the day than the junk I used to eat. I spend an average of $200 a month on groceries. This may seem very cheap to many, because it is! Because I have to eat fresh food, I don't need disposable income for fast food or going out to eat more than a few times a week.
Here's an example of my grocery list (For one week/ week and a half):

The only way to get it right is to START.
I save so much money shopping for fresh food and getting rid of the fast food.
Not only am I saving money now, but also for the future. America spends trillions of dollars each year on health care.
Eating processed foods regularly doesn't only cause obesity, along with the weight problems comes a host of other medical issues such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and increased risk of stroke and cancer.
Why not save money NOW and in the future by eating clean NOW and staying healthy longer?

So maybe I haven't convinced you, which is understandable. Changing the way you eat is LIFE changing, and it's scary to change habits that you have had your whole life. The least you can do is to try eating clean for one week and living off just groceries, not fast food or gas station breakfast biscuits. All it takes is one week to feel the difference and the increase in energy you will have. You will also notice that you have a little more cash than usual left in your pocket at the end of the week. Wink wink.
Eat well and be blessed!
